Goals for 2010

New Projects

  • EHT Big Tree Program – in conjunction with EHT’s Tercentary and the US 2010 census, we would like to establish a census of EHT’s remaining big trees
  • Work with NJDEP Water Conservation Pilot Program on the creation of a demonstration Rain Garden at Veteran’s Park
  • Work with NJDEP Water Conservation Pilot Program on a workshop “Building a Rain Barrel”. We hope to use this as the beginning of a workshop series for the community
  • Work with Eagle Academy for the creation of a web site dedicated to the Egg Harbor Township Arboretum & Nature Center  (depends on getting grant which depends on the economy improving)
  • Explore the Temple Tract, cleaning it up and possibly marking the trails, we hope as an Eagle Scout project
  • Establish nice signage for the various Eagle Scout projects at the Arboretum, we hope as an Eagle Scout project
  • Construct a Bird Creek at Arboretum as an Eagle Scout Project
  • Spruce up entrance to Arboretum, working with Eagle Academy

Ongoing Projects

  • Continue to work with NJDEP Water Conservation Pilot Program; this is a 3 year project
  • Continue to work with planning board on strengthening and upgrading our environmental ordinances
  • Continue to repair damage as we can to ongoing vandalism
  • Continue to work with PW on Community Shredding Day

Arboretum

  • Maintain grounds, cutting grass and watering as needed
  • Complete solar project by adding outside electric outlets
  • Establish security system

Arbor Day

  • Continue to promote and organize the poster contest

Miscellaneous

  • Continue to review plans, as required, to ensure compliance with our township ordinances
  • Continue to work with Boy Scouts on Eagle Scout Certification programs
  • Increase our members’ awareness and knowledge of environmental concerns effecting Egg Harbor Township by participating in appropriate, new workshops etc
  • Continue to publicize the Commissions activities and accomplishments in the Current, the Press and various environmental publications such as the ANJEC Quarterly Report, etc.
  • Participate in EHT’s Clean Communities Day with Public Works
  • Continue to present Environmental Achievement Awards to a township businesses for exceptional landscaping
  • Continue to work with NJ Audubon Society member John Layton and Township Administration to identify retention basins suitable for bluebird houses
